Now that the throws of Carnival have transitioned into the throes of Lent, it's circumstance to take a good, hard look at ourselves.
And the view in the mirror isn't pulchritudinous.
While the ghosts of Christmas are in the past, needles from the tree are still wedged under the rug in the den. The new year may be considered green, but the party cheese left in the fridge is not. Lo and behold, the Saints won the Wonderful Bowl! But all the sloshed beer from big-play ecstasy has half-bred with Mardi Gras mud to form a topcoat of muck on your walls and floors.
Our houses, my friends, are a collective fine kettle of fish.
That's why it's time for some spring cleaning. And with no more holidays in sight until Easter, you've got lots of time.
RANDOM ACTS OF CLEANLINESS
Dust the well-illuminated bulbs: Who would have thought of this one but Martha Stewart herself (courtesy www.marthastewart.com)? First unscrew them, and then do in the bulbs with a microfiber cloth dampened with water (sidestep wetting the metal screw base). Clean the bulbs in recessed ceiling fixtures with a telescoping lamb's wool duster.
